Living in Dubai is incredible. The lifestyle, the energy, the food scene — there's nowhere quite like it. But if you're trying to lose fat, Dubai can feel like it's working against you at every turn. Endless brunches. Late-night shawarma runs. Business dinners you can't say no to.

After coaching 500+ clients across Dubai and worldwide, we've seen every obstacle there is — and helped people overcome all of them. This guide is everything we know about losing fat while actually living your life in Dubai. No crash diets, no skipping social events, no misery.

Why Fat Loss Is Hard in Dubai — And Why It Doesn't Have to Be

Dubai presents a unique set of challenges that most generic fitness advice completely ignores. Portion sizes at restaurants are enormous. The social culture revolves around food and dining. The heat makes outdoor activity uncomfortable for half the year. Add to that the fast-paced expat lifestyle — long hours, frequent travel, stress — and you have a recipe for inconsistency.

But here's what we've learned: the environment isn't the problem. The strategy is. With the right approach, Dubai's lifestyle becomes manageable — and fat loss becomes sustainable.

Step 1: Understand Your Numbers

Before anything else, you need to understand your Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE) — the calories your body burns each day. Fat loss happens when you eat slightly less than this number, consistently over time.

A simple starting point: multiply your bodyweight in kg by 22 (women) or 24 (men) to get your BMR. Then multiply by your activity level — 1.2 for sedentary, 1.375 for lightly active, 1.55 for moderately active. Eat 300–500 calories below that number and you will lose fat.

Tarek's Rule

Don't try to cut 1,000 calories a day. A 400-calorie daily deficit means 1kg of fat loss every 2.5 weeks — sustainable, real results that don't destroy your muscle or your social life.

Step 2: Master Protein

Of everything we teach our clients, this single habit delivers more results than anything else: hit your protein target every single day. Aim for 1.8–2.2g per kg of bodyweight. Protein keeps you full, preserves muscle as you lose fat, and burns more calories just to digest.

In Dubai, excellent protein sources are everywhere — grilled chicken, fish, eggs, labneh, Greek yoghurt, lean beef from any Carrefour or Spinneys.

Step 3: The Dubai Restaurant Strategy

We don't tell our clients to avoid restaurants. We teach them to navigate them. Order protein first. Ask for sauces on the side. Eat to 80% full. Drink water before and during your meal.

Brunch Strategy

Dubai brunches don't have to derail your progress. Eat a high-protein breakfast beforehand so you arrive not starving. Fill your plate with protein and vegetables first. You can have one indulgent meal per week and still lose fat — it's the other 20 meals that matter.

Step 4: Ramadan and Fat Loss

With the right approach, Ramadan doesn't just preserve your results — some of our most impressive client transformations happen during Ramadan. Break your fast with dates and water, then eat a protein-heavy meal. At Suhoor, focus on slow-digesting carbs, protein and healthy fats. Move your workouts to the evening after Iftar.

Step 5: Training That Fits a Dubai Lifestyle

The most effective training plan is the one you actually follow. Three sessions per week is enough to lose significant fat — especially combined with proper nutrition. Two to three resistance training sessions per week, 8,000–10,000 steps daily, and one cardio session of 20–30 minutes.

The Bottom Line

Dubai's lifestyle doesn't have to be an obstacle. With the right strategy — understanding your numbers, hitting your protein, navigating restaurants smartly — you can lose fat while fully enjoying everything this city has to offer. That's exactly what we help our clients do every single day.
